Daikokuya – L.A.’s Best Japanese Ramen

This tiny treasure deserves a lengthy post on it’s own. Tucked in the heart of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, it’s immediatley recognizable from blocks away since there is a constant little hangout of hungry customers in a (usually) 1-2 hour waiting list (trust me, we experimented both for lunch and dinner).

First off, the spot is tiny – and the owners have no intention of growing it. (They actually dedicate the whole first page of their menu explaining that they keey it small to ensure quality). Secondly, it honestly tasted as close to the ramen we had in Tokyo last year – spicy, steamy and delectible ! If you’re at all a ramen fan, you MUST take the time to try this spot – worth every minute of the wait.

We enjoyed the cabbage salad, gyoza (pan-fried dumplings), tempura and, naturally, the ramen. Of all the fancy-shmansy food LA has to offer, I can probably speak on behalf of my husband, and say this was our favorite spot in the city. Does anyone know where we can get good Japanese ramen here in Kuwait ? I’m craving it and am working on perfecting a recipe and will share it soon with you all !
